I have been working on a new quilt that incorporates appliqué and embroidery using wool felt. It has been a very relaxing activity at night to sit and sew, creating different effects with the wool embroidery. Sue Spargo’s creative stitching provided some great inspiration. I used a range of tilda fabrics for the circles and tried to match the wool felt with the colour shades in each block.

I joined the blocks together and added an outside border using the floral prints.
It is so rewarding when a quilting plan works and makes the whole piece become one design. So happy with the progress so far.

This is lovely Lyn, I look forward to seeing the whole quilt. Although I don’t do wool applique, I just might have to buy that book for the design ideas!

Your creativity and artistic abilities are incredible. This quilt is stunning. Someday I hope you consider creating patterns for those of us who love your work but are less talented.
Thank you

I have just started a Sue Spargo project and am really enjoying it. After seeing her recent sea theme quilt, I was thinking of pulling out an old sea theme project of mine, which included crochet and knitted items and adding some wool embroidered items onto the cotton background, so it’s great to see it can work. I absolutely love what you have done – it is stunning. You are so talented and inspirational.

I have a friend that has made several of her block of the month projects, including the sea themed quilt. The detail and stitches used is just mind blowing. I went for a very simple version of wool embroidery….enjoy experimenting.

Thankyou for your kind comments. I have used 15 different designs for this quilt, making 2 of each one in a different colour way to give me 30 blocks.

Wow, that is absolutely beautiful. I have some downtime waiting for the carpet cleaners to finish up and I’ve been using it to think of some hobbies I’d like to start. I used to be so into sewing but have slowed down as life got busier, but I’m looking to do some more for myself so I’m trying to relearn it a little bit! I was never great at quilting, but yours is turning out so great and we’ve got a grandbaby coming soon that I’d love to make a quilt for! Thanks for the inspiration!
